Becoming a professional athlete is not an easy task. It takes a special physical structure, jumping ability and many other things. The most important thing that professional athletes have, more than anyone else, is the mentality of a professional. That may seem stupid or redundant to you, but mentally preparing is the most important thing an athlete can do. Here are 3 easy tips to mentally prepare for your vertical jump raise.
1. Imagine!
I’ve used this technique for everything from dunking the basketball to stealing a home run into deep center field. This is a very simple concept and it WORKS!
What you do is, when you lie in bed at night, visualize yourself doing the perfect dunk or raising the bar on the high jump. Play that scene over and over in your head every night. When you work on your jump training, imagine yourself hitting the ball hard.
2. Anger
Anger is not always a negative thing. Sports are a great way to harness anger and release it in a way that is highly beneficial.
When you are working on your jump training, think of something that makes you very angry. Channel that anger into your training. Use that anger to become the animal you need to be to increase your vertical jump.
3. Passion
It is important to have a passion in the sport in which you participate. If anything is stopping you from pursuing that passion, remove it and focus all your energy on training to be the best athlete and high jumper.
The mind is a very powerful thing. If you can harness its energy and focus your mind in the right way, anything is possible.
